Vetrya and LUISS give birth to the new professorship “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence”

Rome, February 13th 2018 - Vetrya [VTY.MI], an Italian company quoted on the Stock Exchange and a well-known leader in the development of digital services, apps and broadband solutions, and the Guido Carli LUISS University give birth to the new professorship “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence”.

 

The professorship becomes part of the new degree course in “Management & Computer Science” which is going to start officially from the academic year 2018-2019.

 

The choice of fostering an academic teaching, made by Vetrya Group, is part of its plans focused on promoting young people digital talent, education training and job placement. In addition to the agreement to the ministerial programme of school – work turnover, guesting students from high schools, Vetrya supports many trainings and apprenticeships in agreement with Universities.  Moreover, it awards, since 2017, a scolarship for the best dissertation about artificial intelligence application in the 4.0 industry, in the context of Comitato Leonardo Degree Awards.

 

The official presentation has held today, Tuesday 13th February, in Roma, at Villa Blanc, offices of LUISS Business School.

 

The LUISS President Emma Marcegaglia, the Dean Paola Severino and Vetrya President and Chief Executive Officer Luca Tomassini will attend the event: “Digital ergo sum: il nuovo approccio formativo tra Social e Data Science” (Digital ergo sum: the new educational approach between Social and Data Science”.

 

Moreover, Luca Tomassini will take part to the round table discussion, led by Massimo Russo, Digital Unit General Manager of Gruppo Editoriale GEDI, about the value of “digital skills” in every field of knowledge, together with LUISS Business School Manager Paolo Boccardelli, Human Resource and Organization Manager of ENEL Francesca Di Carlo, with Tencent Europe Manager Andrea Ghizzoni, LUISS Professor in Practice Marketing & Digital Marco Francesco Mazzù and with the Chief Executive Officer of ItaliaCamp Fabrizio Sammarco.

 

“We are proud of having the chance of fostering a professorship about a main topic, such as the Artifial Intelligence, for the future technological development – Luca Tomassini, Vetrya President and Chief Executive Officer, pointed out – The Machine Learning consists in nothing else than “teaching” to machines those skills which can extend people abilities. As well as, teaching this subject to young people will allow them to improve their creative talent in favor of everybody.

 

“The course is part of the University programme about the topic of “Digital Transformation”, which consists of education courses and workshops whose aim is to train new figures able in mixing basic knowledge and new qualifications, working in a cross-curricular context. Even the Masters in Cibersecurity and in Big Data Management are part of the programme, as the Dean, Prof. Paola Severino explains - “adding that the introduction of these courses depends on educational necessities of companies and Civil Service. We want contribute to success”, the Dean ended, “of young people who want and who are able to mix economic, legal and social knowledge, with engineering, data and technical analysis, in order to face the new digital world challenges”.

“Digitalization and artificial intelligence, robotics and information technology development represent a historic change” – LUISS Vicar ProDean, Andrea Prencipe, pointed out - “Digital Transformation leads us in rethinking about traditional management mindset and in using an educational approach based on facts more than on theory. We are unaware about coming work but we have to plan for managing people and companies future even with a “mix of knowledge”, where social sciences play a huge role, because data without implementation makes no sense”.

 

For enrolling in this new course, passing the entrance exam is needed. It helds in Rome and in other 25 cities next April 19th: the only date in 2018 for the entrance to the Guido Carli LUISS Bachelor degree courses in Economics, Political Sciences and to the Master degree in Law.
